Walking School Bus Safety

Walking School Bus Parents:
Please make sure your child understands how dangerous a street of high-speed cars can be.

• Walk (Don't Run)
• Stay on the Sidewalk
• Walk Sensibly (No Horsing Around)

Tell your child to follow instructions given to them by WSB leaders.  Children with persistent dangerous behavior will be removed from the walking school bus.

Walking School Bus Leaders:

Be visible.

At the start of each walk, remind the children of important rules:

• Walk (Don't Run)
• Stay on the Sidewalk
• Walk Sensibly (No Horsing Around)

Walk together as a group.  Make sure an adult is at the front with instructions to slow everyond down so the last person is not too far behind.

Cross the streets as a group, allow slower walkers to catch up before crossing.  Make eye contact with stopped drivers and be sure they are letting you cross before entering the road.

Cross main streets at a crosswalk or intersection, as a group.
